DropBrick

Gameplay: DropBrick is a puzzle game with a focus on physics. This game is similar to Tetris, except when the different shaped blocks fall, you have to stack and balance them on a scale, accumulate enough weight and have the stack of blocks pass a certain height. This is the main objective of the game’s levels, but there are others. For example, some levels require you to use the accelerometer to balance small blocks as they fall.

Controls: Touch and drag the blocks as they fall to move them to a strategic place on the scale. Sometimes the accelerometer is used to balance the scale.

Graphics: Standard “Doodle –fill in the blank—” style graphics (i.e. Doodle Jump).

Music/Sound: The music gets repetitive and there isn’t much in the way of sound effects, which is why it’s nice that this game allows your music to play in the background.

Bottom Line: If you like Finger Physics (paid app), you’ll probably love this app and its 70 addicting levels.  Also, disregard the sale banner on the app icon.  It is an old icon and this game seems to have remained completely free, unless your would like to remove ads.

Zombie Hero - Kill Angry War Ninja

Gameplay: You are Bernie, a zombie whose family has been killed by ninjas. Your objective is to jump on the ninjas (“Mario style enemy stomping”) and collect power-ups. Don’t fall on the ground, or else you’ll lose various body parts. Survive until Sushi Sumo Ninja appears to avenge the murder of your family.

Controls: Holding the iOS device in landscape view, touch the left and right sides of the screen to move Bernie.

Graphics: I particularly like the graphics in this game. Bernie is 3D, sort of cell-shaded. The ninjas running across your screen are 2D. The background is hand-drawn.

Music/Sound: Catchy music with descent sound effects. The game supports music from your iPod as well.

Bottom Line: The nice graphics, sound and easy gameplay make this Zombie vs. Ninja game hard to put down.

Froggy Jump

Gameplay: In this game, you play as a frog, jumping from platform to platform to try to get to a higher altitude. As you do this you will unlock achievements and levels as well as collect power-ups, coins (1000 coins = 1 gem), letters (if you spell a certain word you’ll get a gem), and gems. You can trade gems for accessories for your frog, levels and power-ups/cheats.

Controls: To move the frog left and right, tilt your iOS device. Tap to use rocket power-ups. That’s it. Simple.

Graphics: 2D. Nothing to special, but the frog’s animations are very good.

Music/Sound: The sound effects are well done and your music will play in the background.

Bottom Line: The simplicity of this game really makes it great. It’s definitely worth the download.

Air Cadets

Gameplay: You fly a plane as one of six characters, or "cadets". Each has their own unique story but none seem to have specific skills which affect gameplay. However, there are three different planes you can choose to fly with stats such as speed, agility and weight, which will affect gameplay. Four different game modes exist:

  • Free Flight: Fly wherever you want. There is no objective in this game mode.

  • Ring Run: Fly through as many rings as possible before time runs out.

  • Balloon Burst: Use your plane to pop as many balloons as you can before time runs out.

  • Coin Collect: Bump into as many flying coins as you can before time runs out.
You'll also be able to choose from six levels, or areas where you can play each game mode. High scores are kept for each game mode and level under the records menu on the home screen.

Controls: There are three different sets of controls:

  • Type A: Control system which uses virtual buttons for right, left, climb, and dive.

  • Type B: Control system which uses virtual buttons for climb and dive but takes advantage of the accelerometer for left and right.

  • Type C: Control system which uses the accelerometer for right, left, climb, and dive.
Type A seems to be the smoothest to use but I often end up playing with Type B, which is the default.

Graphics: Colorful, 3D graphics (don't let the anime on the app art fool you).

Music/Sound: There isn't any music in this app (your music can not play in the background either), and the sound effects can get annoying, especially the loud humming of the plane's propeller.

Bottom Line: This is a great flight simulator app to pick up and play because of the plentiful game modes and places to fly.
